Being a coastal city, Durban experiences hot humid summers with temperatures of up to 38 C and mild winters with temperatures rarely dropping below 12 C. The Indian Ocean, with the warm Mozambique current ensures warm waters and temperate climates all year round.
Durban is known for its heavy summer rainfall and tropical thunderstorms, with clear beautiful mornings and dramatic cloudy, rainy afternoon showers. Showers are generally short and heavy. The early months of winter are probably the most pleasant, with long spells of warm, clear perferct days and a drop in humidity.
